corath.pngCorath wants his clerics to spread evil across the lands. The more insanity, the more lies, the more havoc they wreak, the better they will stand in front of his eyes. Wherever a cleric of the Mad God walks, death shall follow their trail. The Mad God also encourages his followers to let their feelings of lust and hatred fuel their existence. Corath teaches that the virulent spread of evil is the goal of his followers’ existence; consequently, many worshippers of The Black Sun seek to extend their lives by making pacts to attain undeath.

Seven tenants of faith are known:

  • Do not fail, for failure is weakness and not tolerated by the Dark One.
  • Fear nothing, fear is a weakness and a weapon of your enemy.
  • You are the instrument of Corath, seek always his will and to spread his influence.
  • Obey with utmost diligence.
  • Let hatred and malice feed your fury.
  • Master oneself that you may master others.
  • Mercy is weakness; exact your punishment with the cold malice of death.

Clergy Favored Weapon and Clothing:
Corath's clerics prefer to use a short sword, since it delivers an average amount of damage, is easy to conceal, and is quick to coat with a poison. Normally every follower of the Black Sun also carries a frost-enchanted short sword to represent the coldness of death.

Clerics garb themselves in chain armor to stop most piercing and slashing attacks. Their armor is usually night black and blood red and adorned with the skulls and bones of fallen enemies.

Priests or priestesses of Corath will wear a hood to cover their faces in shadow, thus adding to their mystic and deception. This hood conceals their identity, something that a Corathite will not readily reveal. Only in rare circumstance and occasion will the cleric be found without their hoods and then only for a brief period of time.

For rituals and ceremonies, the cleric will wear robes of black and a mask of a skull. All blooded followers present will also adorn themselves in a like manner. In addition to their normal consecrated short sword, the cleric will wear a ritual dagger for the performance of their duties.

Clergy and Temples:
Being the god of death, or rather Undeath, as Corath has no control over souls, only the soulless bodies, some of Corath's temples can be found in well-established societies.

The most well known temple currently in use by the Corathites is within the war-torn city of Arnax. Residents of Arnax have come to rely upon this temple in their hour of war. It is rumored that several of the High Priests actually run the city and their current mayor is merely a pawn in their evil designs.

The clergy of this temple maintain a garrison of Black Guards. These black guard is made up of the cruelest, most skilled, and most blackhearted warriors. Their ranks are filled with those from the garrison of Arnax; battle hardened by their endless war with demons and the hosts of Bloodstone.

Several other places of power to the Black Sun exist, such as the Forsaken Temple, and The Black Wizards' Tower.

Constellation:
Named the Ebony Stars by common astrologers this constellation is not only the most difficult to spot, but also the most difficult to number. It is thought to contain ten stars. What makes this constellation so unique and gives it such a name is the fact that these stars give no light. As a matter of fact, they seem suck the light from the sky around it. It is thought that this constellation moves slowly, however once you’ve spotted it, you always seem to be able to find it again and again, whenever you look to the sky (intentionally or not).

Though it can be spotted, most people think the only way to do it is to look for the black void in the night sky. The clerics of Corath however, have other means.

Clerics of the Black Sun, prefer to pray in complete darkness, and they get that once a century or so during the New Moon Cycle, when both Ausir and Orn become new and start their revolutions of light again. It is during this time that little light sits in the sky and the peoples of Layonara turn to Toran's Light to brighten the sky.

The absence of the moons during this night makes the outdoors darker than it almost ever is however it is unknown what significance this plays in Corathite religion. However it is unlikely anyone will truly want to know.
