Currency
When Raklin “The True” Diamonian was crowned emperor of Dregar, around 500 A.C. (after cataclysm), coins were minted by anyone who could find the gold, a tinkerer and a blacksmith to create them. The standard weight was one ounce of pure gold. The practice of shaving gold off of the coins was common place, cheating merchants and laymen alike, so the markets were filled with scales. Raklin decided to right this situation to encourage fair trade to flourish, within his own lands as well as with other lands.

Raklin created a common currency, with the seal of Dregar on one side and a portrait of himself on the other. He added a raised ridge around the outside of the coin to try and prevent the practice of shaving the coins. This ridge caused Dregar’s coins to become the currency of choice for traders both near and far. This gold piece became known as a “True” after his likeness on one side and the fact that all knew it was a true ounce of gold due to the raised ridge. Monarchs and lords around the world have minted their own coins for their local regimes but none have had the success that the True had.

The emperor after Raklin placed his own bust on the opposite side of the coin from the seal of Dregar, starting a trend that would continue for the ages. Each new emperor place his likeness on the coin leading to a vast number of different coins, but with all bearing the seal of Dregar on one side. Several emperors even put their queens on the coins, and one even put a great hero that helped him gain the throne. There is even a collectors guild with a small museum dedicated to collecting all of the variations of the True.

There are several other gold pieces that made there way into official channels.

One is Allurial's who simply called it Queen's Gold, with a crown on one side and a rose on opposite side. It is commonly used by the elite for transactions in the finer things, such as paintings, sculptures, ceremonial armors, elegant furniture, and the like. Some had trickled down into the commoners hands as well.

Another was the dwarven gold piece with a hammer or an axe on one side and a stamp of an ale mug on the other. The dwarven gold piece being a staple of innkeeps and dwarves throughout the land. Some call it the "Innkeeps Piece". Others less friendly with the dwarves call it "The Drunkards Coin".

The elves of Voltrex also minted their own coins, a five sided coin, larger than the rest but thinner, with a small hole through the middle to show the purity of the gold. One side has five small towers, one for each of the elven towers, near the angles of the coin. The other depicts a sun rising above the edge of a forest. This coin became known as a "Tower".

These other coins were and are accepted through out the land but the "True" remains the standard to this day. Throughout the land to this day merchants and buyers alike can be heard asking how many “Trues” or “Truthes” an item, ale, or trinket costs.

Examples:

“A chicken for a Truth”, calls the woman selling hens.

“The blade be two thousand True”, says the dwarves weapon merchant.

The barkeep looks at the downtrodden man and says , “An Axehead Ale be 30 pieces of Truth ser”.
