The term "emotes" refers to the ways your character can express himself or herself in game through actions accompanied by animations or sounds. Upon arriving in Layonara for the first time, each Player Character will have in their inventory a PC Emote Wand. With it, characters can perform a variety of emote-actions, from pipe-smoking to laughing to falling on their faces. Some of the emotes-actions are continuous actions, meaning the character will continue to perform the action until the player issues a different command.

The emote wand is for RP purposes only. It can be effectively used to handle numerous character initiated role-play instances. The use of the emote wand is encouraged, and PC's should find it a handy tool.

There are a few other methods of creating emote-actions to compliment the use of the wand.

  • PC's may create emote-actions by use of the self-tell (/o) function.
    • There are actually more emote-actions available using this method than what the emote wand has to offer.
    • To create an emote-action with a self-tell, simply type "/o ". I.E. "/o cough" will produce the sound-effect of someone coughing.
  • PC's can also produce an emote-action by beginning a line of text with an asterisk. I.E. "*sit*" will result in the character having a seat.
    • The emote-action will also work if the command is written in as part of an emote dialogue. I.E. "*Cole sits on the rock.*" will also result in the character sitting.
    • There is a certain side-effect to this, however. All an emote dialogue needs is the asterisk at the start and the command word anywhere in the text for the emote-action to occur. If you're not careful, your character might emote doing something you don't intend. I.E. "*Cole situated himself between the minotaur and the wounded priest, sword at the ready.*" will result in the character actually sitting in front of the minotaur.
    • The easiest way to avoid accidental emote-actions is begin an emote dialogue with two asterisks instead of one. This will disable the emote command. Of course, this means that when you actually do intend for there to be an emote-action, you must consciously remember to only employ one asterisk for the emote dialogue.
  • A list of the available emotes can be generated by typing "/o E emotehelp"
